“Den blomstertid nu kommer…”
Sure, but the students from Skidgymnasiet in Gällivare-Malmberget have celebrated their graduation with a ski session in the snow!
It was also a way of celebrating the end of Lars-Gunnar Pettersson’s time at the school as a trainer. The legendary ski coach has retired after more than 30 years at Skidgymnasiet.
“Brilliant sunshine, crust on Dundret and some of the country’s most promising skiers out there on skis with graduation caps, there couldn’t be a better finish,” says Lars-Gunnar.
It’s with mixed emotions that Lars-Gunnar is retiring. During his tenure at Skidgymnasiet, he’s nurtured and trained such superstars as Charlotte Kalla, Marcus Hellner and Christer Majbäck. Today’s graduating class has skiers like junior national team member Lisa Winsa.
“It’s a privilege to work with such motivated people as the students at Skidgymnasiet, and with the cross-country training possibilities provided by Gällivare,” says Lars-Gunnar. “We’ve been on the snow since November 1st, and even now we can ski atop Dundret. It’s absolutely fantastic.”
Anders Strid will be the new head trainer at Skidgymnasiet. He’s already worked at the school previously, and more recently he’s been working at Skiduniversitet in Östersund.
